Russel Henry Harris

Russel H. (Chief) Harris December 23, 1931 October 8, 2020 Russel (Chief) Harris, 88, of Cantonment, FL, entered into Gloryland peacefully on October 8, 2020. Russel was born and raised in Bonifay, FL where he graduated from Bethleham High School. Soon after graduating, he joined the US Army where he served as a Pole Lineman in the Korean War before being honorably discharged. He made his life career as a Pole Lineman with Bell South and climbed many of the poles, repaired many of the telephones and made many good friends. Russel retired from Bell South in 1988 and then went to work for Mansfield Industrial Coating for several years until he was ready to fully retire. He was an avid horseman and would trail ride for hours in the woods. Chief, as he was know to many, was happiest in the woods hunting and was a member of Bell Fountain hunting club. He also served as a board member of the Barrineau Park Hunting Club until they were both respectfully dissolved. Russel was a 32nd degree Master Mason of the Scottish Rite and was a lifetime member of Cantonment Lodge #322. Chief was a faithful member of Farm Hill UMC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Harris; parents, Coy and Lennie Harris; six brothers, Coy, Jr, Gene, Ralph, Rex, Fred and Bill; two sisters, Faye Tate and Carolyn Denmark. Russel, aka as daddy, aka as Paw Paw, dearly loved his family and is going to be forever missed. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Dean (Georgette) Harris, grandson Brandon (Christina) Harris, granddaughter Mariena Kight (Mike), five great grandchildren, Myles Kight, Ava Grace Harris, Sawyer Harris, Ella Harris and Lynly Mask. Two sisters, Ruth McGowan (Joe Shores) of Bonifay, FL and Ann Heinen (Phil) of Orlando, FL, Many cousins, nephews and nieces and extended family and friends. The family would like to thank Emerald Coast Hospice and especially Heather Wiggins and Evelyn Fields for being so good to and taking special care of Russel. We’d also like to thank Jason Adams for being such a good friend to Paw Paw. A Graveside Service will take place on Monday, October 12, 2020 at Farm Hill UMC Cemetery beginning at 10:00am with Jason Adams officiating.
