Ronald L Chambers

Ron Chambers (known by his family as Ronnie), 76, of Pensacola, FL passed away October 23, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed peacefully with his loving family by his side. He was born to J. D. Lloyd and Emma Allene Chambers on February 24, 1941 in the town of Grants, New Mexico. Shortly after, his family moved to Texas where he grew up. He graduated from Gorman High School in Gorman, Texas and attended Galveston College. Texas is where Ron began his long career in law enforcement. He started as a police officer in Texas City, Texas, and then accepted a position as Deputy Sheriff in Galveston, Texas. He began his Federal Career as a Sky Marshall at the launch of the program in 1971. He flew on various flights as an undercover agent to avert any attempts at terrorism. He then joined the US Customs Patrol Division in Brownsville, Texas as an undercover agent. After that, he took on the position as an investigator in New Orleans, Louisiana for the US Customs Aviation Group and transferred to Pensacola in 1982. One of the highlights of his career was when he earned the position of, Senior Special Agent with the US Customs Service in 1987. Most of his career he worked undercover, but he rarely spoke of his missions. He was known to say that his job was to get the “bad guys”. Ron retired in 1997 with 26 years of Federal Law Enforcement from the US Customs Service, a division of the US Treasury Department. During his career, Ron earned many Letters of Commendation, accolades and various honors, but the most meaningful to him was the friendship and respect of his fellow Officers. After retirement when anyone asked what he was up to his response was, “Just watching the grass grow.” He loved watching football, and his favorite team was the New Orleans Saints. We believe that by divine intervention the Saints won the day before he was called home. He wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Ron is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda Chambers, daughter Cheryl Chambers (Pam), son Mark Chambers (Susan), daughter K.T. Yates (Derrick), daughter Jennifer Barnes (Cory). Grandchildren, Jordan Chambers, Chloe Risher, Zachary Risher, Miya Chambers, Jason McCormick, Tristan Yates, Sawyer Yates and great grandson, Henley Oliver Aponte. His brother, Michael Chambers (Margie) and beloved Aunt Geraldine Myers. Along with several other loving aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Larry T. Chambers. There will be two memorial services: first one in Pensacola, FL at Faith Chapel North in Cantonment, Florida on Saturday, October 28, 2017. The family will receive guests at 2 PM with the service to begin at 3 PM. The second memorial service will be held graveside at Hillsdale Cemetery (The Chambers family cemetery) in Izoro, Texas on November 25, 2017 at 2 PM.
