Roland Berube

Roland Berube died of natural causes in hospice care, Saturday September 9, 2023. He was 93. A Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp and a Veteran of the Korean War, Roland was born in Berlin, New Hampshire on August 20,1930, the son and last surviving child of Thomas and Elsie (Kral) Berube. He grew up in Lewiston, Maine with his two brothers and sister until he entered the Marine Corp when he was 18. He bravely served with Howe Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment in Korea where he was in Inchon at the Battle of Seoul and the Battle of Chosin Reservoir receiving unit commendations for his service. He left the Marines after eight years and settled in Pensacola, FL where he worked 32 years in Civil Service as a helicopter mechanic and supervisor for NARF until his retirement in 1985. Roland was a self taught carpenter, plumber, electrician, and mason, completing renovations on his personal home and workshop. He also enjoyed fishing and boating in his early years. He met his wife, Jane Smith Berube, who was also stationed at NAS in the Navy. They married in December, 1952 and raised six children. They were together for 63 years until Jane’s death in November, 2015. He was also predeceased by his son, Michael Berube in June 2020. His surviving children are Mark Berube (Gail) of Monroe, Georgia. Eric Berube (Sandra) of Milton, FL. Randall Berube of Pensacola, FL. Laura Berube of Robertsdale, AL. and Andrea Caprara (John) of Birmingham, AL, along with 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, dozens of nieces, nephews and extended family. Services will be held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home, 100 Beverly Parkway, on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. followed by burial at Barrancas National Cemetery at NAS, Pensacola.
