Rita Trujillo Hanna

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rita Trujillo Hanna, 65, of Pensacola, Florida who departed this world on March 9, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of love, empathy and cherished memories that will forever be held dear by her family and friends. She was born in Pensacola on August 15, 1958 to Romolo Eugenio Trujillo and Gerlinde Raab. She was married to her husband Preston L Hanna for 47 years, who preceded her in death 3 months prior. Rita was a native of Pensacola, Florida with fond memories of growing up in the Warrington community. In her vibrant youth, Rita considered herself a tomboy, enjoying the outdoors and athletic hobbies such as riding dirt bikes with her brothers and friends and surfing along the Gulf Coast on Johnson’s Beach. She was an avid skateboarder, where she once won a downhill slalom championship off E Gadsden St. She also ran track at Warrington Middle School and held the record for the 200m for over 17 years. Rita was an avid lover of the earth and nature, having formed deep connections to it through the sun and the sky, the flowers and trees, animals, and the beach. Rita was a proud and loving mother and Nana, and an unwaveringly loyal wife, always making her family’s well-being and happiness her top priority in life. She was a homemaker and mother of three by the age of 23 and traveled all over…from the likes of Venezuela to California to Georgia and back to Florida while supporting her husband’s baseball profession. She became “Nana” at the young age of 39 and embraced that role with pure love. Her grandchildren were always engaged with her expressive storytelling and hands on approach to her teaching and development. She loved educating her grandchildren about birds, flowers, baking, and gardening. One of her greatest passions was to teach and coach baseball. One of her proudest moments was winning a world series in 1988 with Seth’s 5 & 6 year old Myrtle Grove T-ball team. Rita was a strong, resilient, selfless and comforting soul to all. No matter what was needed of her or when, she showed her love by being there for you in any way she could without judgement and without asking for anything in return. She wore her heart on her sleeve, showing strong care and empathy to all living things and their situations, people and animals alike. Rita is survived by her children: daughter Caroline Rene Hanna, son Warren Lee Hanna (Kristina), and son Preston “Seth” Hanna (Veronica). She is also survived by her sisters Carmen Trujillo Anderson (Paul) and Jennifer Trujillo Rottger (Chuck). In addition to her immediate family, Rita leaves behind a legacy through her 11 grandchildren: Gabriel, Destiney, Isabella, Elijah, Paige, Preston “Luke”, Boston, Aaliyah, Harper, Brynlee, Barrett, several nephews and nieces, 4 grand dogs: Rocco, Pixie, Pretzel, Charlie and too many cats to name. Rita is preceded in death by her beloved husband Preston Lee Hanna, father Romolo Eugenio Trujillo, mother Gerlinde Raab and her brothers Bonnie “Barney” Romolo Trujillo and Michael Stephen Trujillo. A private memorial service to celebrate Rita’s life will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South.
