Lois Cotton Garlock

Lois Cotton Garlock February 26,1924 - June 3, 2018 Lois (Cotton) Garlock passed away peacefully in hospice care on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the age of 94. Lois was born the second daughter to George and Jessie Gladys Cotton, in South Sioux City, Nebraska. She had two sisters, Darlene (Cotton) Womersley, the oldest, and Betty Jean (Cotton) Christianson, the youngest, both preceding her in death. Lois is survived by her four children, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces & nephews. She married Roy Junior Garlock in 1943 after graduating from high school where she was honored to be elected Homecoming Queen. As senior members of the high school Glee Club, both Roy and Lois were First Place winners in the state’s quartet and soprano competitions. Lois worked in Civil Service while Roy joined the Navy and was sent off aboard ship during WWII. After the war, they traveled to several duty stations with Lois continuing her Civil Service role until they started a family. Vicki Lynn Garlock was born to Roy & Lois in Sioux City, Iowa. in 1946, Terry Lee Garlock, in Corpus Christi, Texas, 1948, James Robert Garlock, in Honolulu, Hawaii, 1952, and Charles (Chuck) David Garlock born in Pensacola, Florida, 1958. When all of the children were in school, Lois returned to her Civil Service role winning several achievement awards until her retirement in 1988. Roy retired from the Navy after 23 years as Chief Petty Officer and stayed in Pensacola opening a lawnmower & bicycle repair shop in Myrtle Grove. Roy preceded Lois in death in 1996. Lois was a long-time member of Brownsville Assembly of God Church. She was always involved in her church in various capacities. Her last assignment was typing, and categorizing her pastor’s (John Kilpatrick) sermons, and developing an intricate filing system using her Civil Service skills. The ladies would gather frequently to play dominos, rotating to member’s homes and sharing lunch together. Her desire to “help others” was evident even when she was attending an Adult Health Day Care, sponsored by The Council on Aging’s day care. The staff showed such loving care and are commended for being instrumental in helping Lois feel needed again. Throughout her life, Lois Garlock was steadfast in her dedication to her faith, her church and her family. Visitation will be Friday, June 8, 2018 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Reverend John Kilpatrick will be officiating.
