Jon Steven Magee

Jon Steven Magee, 67, of Pensacola, Florida, entered peacefully into eternal life on February 21, 2023. Steve was born on July 9, 1955, in Tylertown, Mississippi, as the youngest son of Vernon and Elaine Magee. He spent his youth in Atmore, Alabama, until he went to college at the University of Southern Mississippi, graduating with a degree in computer science. Steve wed his childhood best friend, Paula Turberville, on September 26, 1981, and they remained married for 41 wonderful years. Family was incredibly important to Steve, and he was an outstanding father to his daughter, Stephanie, and his son, Joey. His children knew that they could always count on their dad for unconditional love and support. Steve knew he wanted to have a career in computing from the time he was in the 7th grade, and he proved to be very gifted at it. In his career, Steve worked as a computer software consultant specializing in payroll and human resources applications for Fortune 500 companies. He opened his own consulting firm in 1990 and traveled extensively to client sites throughout the United States for more than 18 years. His specialized knowledge and expertise often made him a hero to his clients for his ability to solve what he dubbed “the crisis of the day.” All who knew Steve vividly remember his sense of humor and his ability to say the funniest things in even the most mundane moments. His smile and jovial laughter often made him the life of the party. Steve was a compassionate, caring soul with a big heart and a generous spirit. He was the kind of person who would give away his last possession if he found someone in need of it. Steve had a true passion for cooking, and he dearly loved flexing his superb culinary skills at holidays and family gatherings. Each year, his excitement for the Christmas season would turn him into a big kid. Steve had a number of beloved pets over the years, and in retirement, he could often be found relaxing in his recliner watching his favorite television shows, Perry Mason and The Price is Right, with a cup of coffee in his hand and a pup on his lap. Beginning with a major heart attack in 2010, the 13 difficult years that followed saw Steve faced with multiple major life-threatening health crises, including Addison’s disease, gangrene, cellulitis, sepsis, arrhythmia, and kidney failure to name a few. Through each illness, he looked to the Lord and leaned on the care and dedication of his family and the power of prayer for the help he so desperately needed. The courage, strength, and determination Steve displayed through these many severe trials with his health, even until the very end, was nothing short of awe-inspiring. In 2018, Steve was one of the only patients in the Southeastern US who both qualified and was willing to participate in the clinical trial for the Barostim implantable device for heart failure patients. A year later, his case study was cited as instrumental in the FDA’s decision to give final approval for the device, paving the way for an untold number of patients to benefit. Steve was truly an incredible person whose ability to overcome, sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love have left an unforgettable impression on all who were blessed to know him. He leaves behind quite a remarkable legacy. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers David Magee and Keith Magee. He is survived by his wife, his children, his son-in-law David Yeatts, his brother Gary (Becky) Magee, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. CST at Faith Chapel North, 1000 S. Highway 29, Cantonment, Florida.
