Jimmie Herman Tatum, Sr.

Jimmie “Herman” Tatum Sr., 78 of Pensacola, passed away peacefully on July 14th 2020. Herman was born to Howard and Lizzie Tatum on December 29th 1941 in Pensacola, Florida. Herman was retired from the State of Florida as the head of maintenance at the Pensacola Boys Base, a delinquent youth program, located at Corry Station Pensacola. Herman worked many years for Quigley Electric before being hired by the State of Florida. In his free time, he raced boats and motorcycles and is a current world speed record holder in his class of boat racing. Herman also won the governors trophy in boat racing which was presented to him by Governor George Wallace of Alabama at that time. Herman enjoyed riding motorcycles all over the United States. He made numerous trips with friends and family alike. Herman was also an aircraft enthusiast. After receiving his private pilots license, he and longtime friend Lynn Wood purchased a private plane and traveled many places. Herman also loved to jet ski with his faithful four-legged companion Jake and numerous friends and family. He never let life stand in his way. He accomplished every goal he set his mind to. Herman was also a family man that loved his family dearly. Herman married Virginia Boles on June 9th 1962 and had just celebrated 58 years of marriage this year. He also loved his grandkids with all of his heart. He enjoyed spending time with each of them. His face would light up just talking about them. Timothy, Aubrie, and Bryce could never ask for a better “Popa”. Herman was proceeded in death by his father Howard Tatum, mother Lizzie Tatum, brother Jack Tatum and nephew Kenny Tatum. He is survived by his faithful and devoted wife of 58 years Virginia “Ginger” Tatum and son Jimmie Herman Tatum Jr. and wife Kristi and grand children Timothy, Aubrie, and Bryce Tatum. He had four brothers and one sister. William “Bubba” Tatum (Pat), Jack Tatum (Nita), Billy Tatum (Judith), Darrell Tatum (Dottie), and Hazel Cook (Arthur). Nephews Tony Tatum, Chip Fox, Jeff Boles, Joel Boles and Michael Ward. Nieces Tina Tatum, Debbie Norris, Vivian Meredith, Shelly Tatum, and Kelly Tatum, and Aimee Schulke. Brother in-law Bill Boles (Beth), and Jerry Boles (Linda). Sister in-law Jeanette Fox (Richard), Gwendolyn Ward (Michael). He also had numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and distant family that loved him so. A Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, Pensacola, FL on Wednesday, July 22th, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. with finger food to follow.
