Elsie Wilson Jackson

Elsie (Wilson) Jackson passed away peacefully at her residence in Pensacola FL, just six days after celebrating her 100th birthday. Born in Chicago, IL, Elsie was the third child of Anton Wilson, Sr. and Mary Hornack, Hungarian immigrants. She married Kenneth Floyd (Jack) Jackson, from Corinth, MS, in 1935. She and Jack lived in Chicago until they retired in 1973 and then moved to Jackson, TN, where they enjoyed their retirement years until Jack passed away in 1988 after 53 years of marriage. In her belief of keeping busy, she began volunteering with the Red Cross at the local hospital. She also began taking oil painting classes at the local senior center, and it continued to be her passion for many years until losing her sight. She moved to Pensacola to be near her family in 1989. Ms. Elsie was an active member of Brownsville Assembly of God and was a faithful member of the Women's Bible classes. She loved a cup of coffee, starting the day slowly, ice cream, going to lunch with her friends, friendly games of Dominos with the ladies, swimming at the neighborhood pool, and traveling as much as possible with the church seniors and friends. Elsie's secret to a long life was to have faith in God, and keep active. Her brothers, George Wilson, and Anton (Andy) Wilson and sister, Irene (Wilson) Zika, preceded her in death many years prior. Her surviving family includes her only child, Sandra Lynn (Jackson) Paoletti married to Peter M. Paoletti and grandson, Geoffrey M. Paoletti of Pensacola; nephew, Robert A. Zika (Gail) Nashville, TN, their children, David A. Zika of Louisville, KY and Sarah Zika, Nashville, TN; great niece, Victoria Wilson of Orlando, FL; and great nephew, Anton H. Wilson III (Frances) and their children, Orlando, FL. Extended family dear to Elsie's heart include Elaine Wilson of Orlando, FL and nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews of Corinth, MS. Visitation will be held at Brownsville Assembly of God Church, 3100 Desoto St., 32505, 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 23, with services officiated by Doctor Evon Horton, Sr. Pastor, immediately following. Internment will take place at a later date at St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park (Chicago), IL, where she will be interred with her father, mother, sister, and brother. Pallbearers will be family members; honorary pallbearers will be members of the Women's Ministry. The family of Elsie Jackson would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Sterling House of Pensacola and Regency Hospice for their loving care and kindness given to Ms. Elsie and her family in her/their time of need.
