Ellen Madsen Silcox 1925-2013 Our Mother, Mrs. Ellen Ida Silcox passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 surrounded by her family. Mother was born Jan. 5, 1925 in Pensacola to Rupert C. Madsen and Issie Pool Madsen. Mother was 88 years old. Our Dad Clinton Odell Silcox married Ellen Madsen on June 1, 1943 in Milton, FL. Mother was of the Baptist Faith and was a 50 plus year member of Ensley Chapter #244, Order of Eastern Star. Mother was preceded in death by our Dad, Clinton Odell Silcox in 1987, he was owner of Silcox Barber Shop from 1952 until 1986; her parents, Rupert C. and Issie Madsen; son-in-law, Robert Wayne Brown (Bob) in 2011; sisters, Flora Knowles, Bernice Madsen, Edith Richmond and Vivian Williams; her only brother, William N. Madsen; her father and mother-in-law, William and Tinsey Silcox; sister-in-law, Estelle Taylor; her famous cousin in Norway, Roald Amundsen, who reached the South Pole first before Byrd in 1911. She is survived by her three daughters, Ms. Barbara Brown, Mrs. Linda Hester and her husband John L. Hester and Ms. Cindy Hinton; two sisters, Mrs. Clarissa Dungan and Mrs. Murel Stokes; sister-in-law, Mrs. Vernell Southard. She was Grandmother to: Christine (James) Fincher, Michael (Judy) Merritt, Denise Merritt, John C. (Jennifer) Hester, Monica Hester, Justin Hinton, Jaime (Brandon) Amick, Steven Hinton, Heather Hinton and Travis Hinton. Mother had 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Our mother lived to see 5 generations. Visitation will be Friday, June 28, 2013 from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. Funeral services will be at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South on Saturday, June 29, 2013 with Rev. Allen Cotton, Victory Bible Baptist Church and Rev. Chris Aiken, Calvery Baptist Church officiating with Ensley Chapter #244 doing the service. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Hardy, Curtis Lloyd, Fred Thompson, Charles Merritt, Gary Long and Jake Fretwell. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hadji Temple Shriners.
