Clyde Douglas Saucier

Doug Saucier was reunited with his wife in heaven on Thursday, October 25, 2018. Those that knew them personally knew they were inseparable during their lives here on earth. During their 56 years of marriage, they only spent two weeks apart while Doug was on a mission trip to Brazil. Doug was passionate about serving God, his church, his family, and his community. Doug spent a short time serving his country in the US Army and later worked for the civil service until retirement. He served, along with his wife, as the youth leaders of Landmark Baptist Church for 11 years. He then attended Pleasant Grove Baptist where he served as a deacon and built a new nursery. In more recent years, he was an active member of Pine Summit Baptist Church. Doug’s talent and ministry was working with his hands. He could build or repair anything he attempted. He built his house, his computer, birdhouses, and churches in Brazil. In “retirement,” he started a home renovation company. He was the guy that friends and family called when they needed something fixed—no request was ever an inconvenience. Since the passing of his wife, he had become involved in monthly food giveaways, the Council on Aging’s daily lunches, and West Escambia senior center activities. Other things Doug was passionate about included traveling, photography, tinkering in his woodworking shop, going to every event/ sport his daughters and grandsons participated in, spending two months putting up his extensive Christmas decorations, faithfully attending the Men’s Barn Meetings, and telling cheesy jokes. When healthcare workers asked him if he needed anything else, his reply was predictably “liver and onions, hog head cheese, black eyed peas, collard greens, and corn bread.” His final words were to the hospice nurse that asked him if he had any allergies. He replied, “only doctors, nurses, and hospitals.” The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the nurses, techs, therapists, physicians, and other staff with Sacred Heart Hospital, Covenant Hospice, Baptist Home Health, Covenant Home Health, and Olive Branch Rehab for going above and beyond to provide him with exceptional care in the last four months of his life. Doug is proceeded in death by his wife, Beverly; parents, Louis and Lottie Saucier; his brothers Gilbert, Robert, and John Alvin; and his sister Carolyn. He is survived by his daughters Donna (Shane) and Sandy (Lisa), as well as grandsons, Justin and Matthew (Mariah). Visitation will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 2:30 pm. The funeral services will start at 3:30 pm, also at Pleasant Grove Baptist, with his nephew, Pastor Mark Brown, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
