Charlotte "Lou" Harley

Lou went to be with the Lord on November 29, 2024. She was born on July 20th of 1930 in Pensacola Florida. She was a graduate of Pensacola High School where she enjoyed being a member of the Glee Club. She grew up in church, loving and singing gospel music, and studied the rudiments of music and ear training. She met her life’s mate George, just after he returned from serving in the Pacific in WW2. They were married at Richard’s Memorial Methodist Church. She was active in the choir, Sunday School and served as Chairman of the Membership Committee. They were married 70 years. Lou worked in data processing at Monsanto, Gulf Power, and the City of Pensacola. In later years, she was a travel agent. She and her husband George loved to travel and saw much of the Lord's beautiful creations both here in all 50 states and abroad including the Holy Land. Lou was a profound and loyal Christian. Her life was a reflection of her faith. Her active involvement with her Church was an integral part of her fabric. The people in her church were a source of lifetime faith and friendships till the day she passed. She shared her faith. As a member of Olive Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School for several years and in the later years, substituted as teacher for the Chapel Sunday School Class. She was a faithful member of the choir for over 40 years at Olive Baptist Church. She had a voice of an angel, sang alto, and recorded a tape of her favorite gospel songs that we still cherish. Lou loved people and always had a soft, loving, and kind heart. She always shed real emotional tears in a flash when watching stories of good deeds, animals in danger, or love and especially Christmas movies. She was a joy to everyone who knew her. She loved, protected and cared for pets like children. She was compassionate to those less fortunate, always donating to charities and her church and their missions. She and George spent periods in Brazil helping their mission of building remote churches. After her husband George passed away, she spent her last 6 years living with her daughter Brenda and her husband Ben in south Florida. In her last month, with travel, she saw and hugged every member of her family including the 3 grandsons and 8 great grand children. The day after a beautiful Thanksgiving 2024 family gathering, she sat down in her chair fully dressed, chatting with her daughter Brenda, discussing a new nativity scene installed moments before, when the good Lord took her home to rest in one painless breath. Rest in peace Mom… we will miss you forever. We loved you dearly, and we will miss your kind smile, miss talking to you everyday, we will miss those calls and text to all your kids and grandkids. We will miss everything about you Mom. You were the support rock for our entire family. Your loss will leave a void no one could ever replace. You were special and we were all so lucky to have you as Mom. Lou is proceeded in death by her husband, George W. Harley, her parents James Buford and Cora Fiveash, her sister Barbara Ann McIntire (Bill), and her brother Jimmie Fiveash (Sarah). She is survived by her son and spouse W. Larry Harley (Pat), her daughter Brenda Ryle (Ben), 3 Grandsons Brian Harley (Jamey), Philip Ryle (Julie), Daniel Ryle (Joy), and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will occur this Monday, December 9, at Olive Baptist Church in Passmore Hall. Visitation will be 10-11am and service from 11-12 noon. No graveside services. Lou will be laid to rest with her husband George in the Barrancas National Cemetery Pensacola Naval Air Station. In Lieu of flowers, you may give to your favorite charity.
