Charles David Flannigan

Charles David Flannigan, 83, of Pensacola, Florida went to be with his Heavenly Father on March 2, 2020. Charles was born in Marion, Indiana on September 22, 1936 to Lewis Ted, Sr., and Edith Mae (Fox) Flannigan. His formative years were spent with family, friends and learning the value of hard work. He proudly proclaimed to be a graduate of “Frog College”, his grade school, where you just hopped up one row each year and yes, there really was a Frog College. He graduated from Mississinewa High School, Gas City, Indiana and in 1955 enlisted in the Navy where he served for 20 years in Naval aviation mechanics. With no desire to return to the cold & snow of Indiana; Charles, late in his military career, pressed for a duty station in warm weather and happily retired in Pensacola, Florida at Ellyson Field in 1974 to pursue his new profession of real estate. In March of 1980, in a continuing education real estate class, he met Linda (Barnard), the lady he called “the love of his life”. They were married on March 14, 1981 and together, they would grow their faith, blend their two families and work side-by-side in their chosen profession and company, Flannigan Real Estate. After retirement in 2006, he spent his time enjoying family, traveling, restoring his father’s 1941 Plymouth truck and special times at their mountain cabin in Maggie Valley, NC. As an avid lifelong runner and dedicated “health nut”, he and family were surprised at his diagnosis of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in 2013, but together with his Christian faith, positive attitude and unique sense of humor, he pushed forward to follow the Great I Am. Charles is preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas Flannigan; daughter, Cristy Flannigan; brother, Ted Flannigan, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Barnard) Flannigan; sons, Bruce Flannigan and Barry (Evelyn) Flannigan; daughter, Melissa (Don)Wilson); grandchildren; great grandchildren and sister, Laura (Robert) McCoy. The family of Charles wish to extend their sincere appreciation to Pensacola Lung Group, Dr. Bray, Dr. Diaz, staff and especially Nurse Debbie.; Dr Papic of Palliative Care/Sacred Heart, as well as Covenant Care. A special thank you to the staff of Covenant Care/Sacred Heart. Memorial service will be held Saturday March 7, 2020 at Faith Chapel South. The family will receive friends at 2 PM with Services at 3 PM. Interment will be held Monday, March 9, 2020, 10:30 at Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial be made to Covenant Care, 5041 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504 or the charity of your choice.
