Charles Edmund Ellis

Charles Ellis 1936 - 2016 Elder Charles “Chunky” Ellis, Age 80, of Cantonment, FL, peacefully left his family and friends on September 7, 2016, to rest eternally with his heavenly father. Charles was born April 11, 1936, in Big Spring, TX, and in 1941, moved with his family to Escambia County, FL. Charles attended J.M. Tate High School, but completed his education at Pensacola Adult High. Charles was an avid outdoor adventurer who enjoyed fishing and camping, and grew up exploring the area beaches, woods, creeks, and rivers. He would later teach that same love of nature and discovery to his children and grandchildren. From 1955 - 1958, he served in the U.S. Army as an atomic cannoneer, where he earned a U.S. Army good conduct medal, and also qualified as marksman, earning the distinction of expert and sharpshooter on multiple weapons. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Claire Cannon, together they raised three children. Charles went to work for Armstrong World Industries in 1959, and retired from their employment after 39 years. In 1988, Charles became an ordained minister of the Primitive Baptist doctrine, and served faithfully as pastor to Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church, in Molino, FL; Fairhaven P.B.C., in Ocean Springs, MS; Lockhart P.B.C., in Florala, AL; and Spring Hill P.B.C., in Flomaton, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mazzie Ellis, a son, Gary; his brother, Alvin Ellis, and his sister, Margaret Sanders. Those left to cherish his precious memory, are his wife of 58 years, Claire Ellis; daughter, Angie (Keith) Godwin, son, Chuck (Vinera) Ellis; sister, Paula (Maynard) Nighbert, brother, James (Geneva) Ellis; grandchildren, Ryan (Tara), Shane (Jennie), Cody (Ananda), Daniel (Isabel), Andrea (Kenneth), Hannah, Darina, and Renat; great-grandchildren, Miley, Charley, Stadler, and two who’s arrival he was eagerly awaiting; brothers-in-law, Jim Sanders and James (Audrey) Cannon; sisters-in-law, Joyce Ellis and Sharon (La Don) Croom; and a number of nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 5:00 – 7:00pm, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. The funeral service will be Sunday, September 11, 2016, at 2:30pm, at Little Flock P.B.C., 3218 Molino Rd, Molino, FL., with Elders Shane Ellis and Dawson Stanland officiating. Interment will follow at Little Flock Cemetery. His nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family wishes to express gratitude to the nurses and staff at Covenant Hospice for the love and support for our father and our family during his time in their care.
