Friday took with it the gentlest soul I have ever known. Mama passed in a quiet way and knew her loved ones were with her. As the poet said, “her death diminishes us all. Our pain proves how much love she earned and deserved. Our memories are her gift to us. She certainly lived a life to be remembered and emulated. May we all prove worthy”. Our precious mother, Carolyn K. Reading, 90, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024. Carolyn was born in Millerville, Alabama on March 23, 1933 to the late Houston and Lois King. Carolyn was the epitome of Southern dignity and grace. She was kind, gentle, and loving. Family was everything to our mother. She is reunited with the love of her life, John T. Reading. The two were married for 69 years at the time of his death. Carolyn loved taking care of her family and antiquing with her sisters and sister-in-law. She was a voracious reader, a fantastic cook and baker, and lover of flowers. Most of all, she loved her family. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John T. Reading; sisters, Colleen, Charlotte, Gail; and her brother, Don King. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah R. Bass (Roy); son, John T. Reading, Jr. (Terra); three grandchildren, Adam Bass, Emily Reading, and Molly Reading; 2 great-grandsons, Noah and Harry; and her sister-in-law, Jeannie King. Private family services for Ms. Carolyn K. Reading will be held at Gonzalez United Methodist Church. She will be laid to rest at Gonzalez UMC Cemetery. Pallbearers will include John T. Reading, Jr., Roy Bass, Adam Bass, Jeff Cadenhead, B.J. Riley, and Rodney Smith. Honorary pallbearers include Jerry Lambert, Danny Middlebrooks, David Gregory, Scott White, and Karen Bonanno. The family would like to make a special thanks to B.J. Riley for the love, support, and care everyday for the last years of her life.
