Carolyn Ann Box Dover

Carolyn Anne Box Dover 1927-2017 Carolyn Dover (89) joined her husband of 64 years in Heaven on Thursday, June 9, 2017 in Greeneville, TN where she had resided since August 2016. She was born on June 18, 1927 in Birmingham, AL to the late Anna Bell Duncan Box and Milford Grady Box. Carolyn attended Ramsey High School and the University of Alabama Tuscaloosa. She was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. She met her husband, Ralph, at Lakeview School in Junior High. After his time in the Navy as a radioman on the destroyer Cavalier, he returned to Birmingham and bought a house that Carolyn and her family rented from him He came over to do repairs and the rest is history. They were married at Southside Baptist Church in 1949 and remained devoted to each other until his passing in 2013. A talented seamstress and cook, Carolyn used her gifts to demonstrate sacrificial love and care for her family of 5 through the years wherever life’s journey led them; Birmingham, Atlanta, Nashville. They retired for awhile in Crossville, TN, Winter Haven, FL and then in Pensacola for the golden years. Carolyn worked for 20+ years in the Department of Labor and Statistics for the State of Tennessee. She was a member of Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola and had many caring friends at First Baptist Church, Greeneville, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. Dover; parents; two brothers, Bobby Box and Sonny Box; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Box. Carolyn is survived by her three children, Ralph Dover, Jr. of Pulaski, TN; Carolyn (Charlie) Norman of Glen Rose, TX and Phillip (Linda) Dover of Hobe Sound, FL; six grandchildren, Angela Dover (Chris) Putnam, Amanda Dover (David) Word, Jason Dover, Charles (Leigh) Norman IV, Noelle Norman (Zach) Overturf and Merriannah Dover; five great grandchildren; and a loving niece, Suzanne Dover Dixon. The family would like to thank her friends in Pensacola, Greeneville, TN and around the Southeast for the love shown toward Carolyn. Also thank to the Brookdale Community and Amedysis Hospice for their good care and attentiveness. In lieu of flowers, loving donations will be appreciated to Olive Baptist Church, Pensacola or First Baptist Church, Greeneville, TN. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on June 16, 2017 at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, FL.
