Alfreda Margaret Nellums

Alfreda M. Nellums 1920-2015 Alfreda M. Nellums of Robertsdale (Clear Springs), AL passed away on Wed., Jan. 21, 2015. She was born in Bartow, FL and raised on land homesteaded by her grandfather on the Perdido River near Gateswood, AL. Alfreda was the born the second child of the late Vincent David Scott Phillip and Esther Olson O'Connor on her mother's birthday February 19, 1920. She was in the NYA Camp (National Youth Administration) and married in Dec. 1941. She was a member of the Blue Angel Pkwy Seventh Day Adventist Church and an honorary member of the Clear Springs Methodist Church where she had her first birthday party, a surprise, at age 80 in Feb. 2000. She retired from Baldwin County schools after being in charge of the cafeteria at Belle Fountain School where all her children had attended. She and Mr. Nellums had a farm where they raised cows for resale, sold milk, butter and produce. Her favorite things were gardening, cooking, sewing, crochet, and her love for flowers. She often gave homemade gifts to relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buck Henry Nellums; daughter, Doris Ejido; and siblings, Phillip O’Connor (deceased at age 2), Christine Steadham, and Francis O'Connor. Mrs. Nellums is survived by her children, John (Judy) Nellums, Harriet Skinner, Cathy Sexton, Robert (Penny) Nellums, Phillip (Becky) Nellums, Dorothy Nellums, Dora (Sammy) Bishop; 24 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; and her siblings, Harry O'Connor, Alfred O'Connor, Ruth Granat. She was a loving mother and friend and was willing to share anything with others in need. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sat., Jan. 24, 2015 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Pastor Dan Thompson, officiating. The burial will follow in Clear Springs Methodist Church Cemetery, 27889 County Road 112, Robertsdale, AL 36567. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Fri., Jan. 23, 2015 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.
