Walter Masters age 93 of Pensacola, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 20, 2011. He was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on December 9, 1917. Walter received Christ as his Savior as a young man and faithfully served the Lord. He was a member of Olive Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for many years, and served as an usher, greeter and deacon. He retired from the U.S. Navy and NAS Pensacola. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Effie Greathouse Masters and son-in-law, Stan Shaylor. Walter is survived by his wife, Alice; daughters, Ruth Shaylor of Pensacola and Betty Jean Manes & son-in-law, Roger of Pompano Beach, FL; grandchildren, Greg Shaylor (Lisa) of Memphis, TN, Shannon Horsley (Mike) Boca Raton, FL, Roger, Jr. of Pompano Beach, FL, Jean Manes Cerpa (Hector) of Washington, DC; great grandchildren, Devyn Horsley of Lynchburg, VA, Cameron Horsley of Boca Raton, FL, Connie and Candela Cerpa, of Salto, Uruguay, and Wesley Smith, of Memphis, TN; sisters-in-law, Hazel Gonzalez and Evelyn Taylor of Pensacola; brother-in-law, Robert Taylor (Beverly) of Pensacola. He also leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews. The family wishes to give a special thanks to Dr. Thomas Sunnenberg and Covenant Hospice, especially to Melanie and Laurie. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2011 at FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 100 Beverly Pkwy with Dr. Ted Traylor officiating. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Faith Chapel South one hour prior to the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ministry Village, at Olive Baptist Church. His memory will always be cherished and he will be forever missed. “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” II Cor. 5:8.
