Redonia Adams

Redonia McLain Adams, age 93, born on May 19, 1930, stepped into the realms of glory on March 30, 2024 in Pensacola, Florida surrounded by her family. Redonia was born in Atmore, Alabama. She met her life long soulmate, Clifton Adams and was married in Biloxi, Mississippi…before there were casinos! Clifton was serving in the military and was stationed at Keelser AFB. The two started their life together in Biloxi. They later returned to Pensacola and attended First Pentecostal Church where they were members for 60 years. Her husband, Clifton worked in the family business of used car sales and dealership. Redonia was not to be outdone; in the spirit entrepreneurship, she started and ran a successful childcare nursery known as Fairyland Daycare on “W” street for many years. Her mother, Bertha Josey, sister-in-law, Irma Lee Handrop, and other family members asssited her in running the childcare center. She would talk about how some of her daycare children were so content that they did not want to go home when their parents came to pick them up. Redonia was a social and active woman who was deeply involved in helping others, and enjoyed her church family. Her family and friends will always remember her as an enegetic, decisive business woman with a big heart, willing to help anyone in need. She contributed to the work of the Lord, helping and giving to expand the gospel. She and Clifton owned and operated six Western Sizzlin’ Steak Houses located in Missouri, Arkansas, Alabama, and Florida. She treated her employees like they were part of her family. She made such an empression on their lives that they kept in touch through the years and have talked about the life lessons they learned by working for and with her. They also had great success and achievement in buying and selling homes and real estate. It’s estimated that they moved over 20 times. They had their moving company on “speed dial”. She loved finding a new house and making it even better. She enjoyed the fun of furnishing and upgrading them! Her health began to decline as she reached her early 90’s. She wasn’t able to be as active as she desired. Still, her friends and family kept in touch and visited often. Even when she was weak in body, her fiesty spirit would come out and give us all a good laugh! The family would like to thank Emeral Coast Hospice and our faithful caregivers from Home Instead that gave her such loving and tender care during her last year. She was fiesty and sassy up until the end, and she enjoyed it! She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Robert Adams, Sr.; son, Steven G. Adams; her parents, Bertha Viola McLain Josey and James McLain; four brothers, Bobby, James, Jackie, and Wallace Josey; and her aunt, Inez Bodiford who gave her much care and attention as a child and is fondly remembered by the family. Redonia is survived by her two sons, Clifton Robert Adams Jr. and Rick (wife Susie) Adams; her sister, Jo Ann Cook; four grandchildren, Bo (wife Monica) Adams, Tiffany (husband Chris) Carnley, Victoria “Tori” Adams, Nikki O’Connor (husband Paul) Schmid; great grandchildren, Aiden O’Connor, Addisen and Aria Schmid, Abigail and Jacob Adams, Candace and Baylee Carnley; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Redonia’s life is scheduled for Thursday, April 4, 2024 at First Pentecostal Church (6485 Pensacola Blvd. Pensacola, FL 32505). Visitation begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Kinsey officiating.
