Mitchell Robert Murdock Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Sergeant First Class Mitchell “Mitch” Robert Murdock, 35, a devoted husband, a dedicated father, a loving son, a caring brother, a trustworthy friend, and a decorated soldier with the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) was called home unexpectedly on July 3, 2022. SFC Murdock, a resident of Pace, Florida, was born February 11, 1987, in Winterpark, Florida, the son of Robert and Cathy (Tench) Murdock. He attended Freedom High School of Orlando, FL, where he played football and volleyball. He earned Eagle Scout in his BSA Troop and was awarded Scholar Athlete Scholarship from Citrus Sports Association and went on to play O line tackle at St. Olaf College Oldfield, Minnesota. His heart’s desire to serve led him to enlist in the United States Army in April 2008. After completing Basic Combat Training, Mitch attended Special Forces Assessment and Selection at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he graduated as a Special Forces Engineer Sergeant. Mitch arrived at his first duty station at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in February 2011 and was assigned to Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) as a member of ODA 7231 (Hooligans). While with ODA 7231, he conducted multiple combat deployments to Afghanistan, where he heroically earned two Bronze Star Medals and the Purple Heart. He also deployed numerous times to North and South America on Counter Illicit Drug Trafficking operations protecting U.S. interests in the Western Hemisphere. In June 2017, Mitch was selected to be an instructor within Alpha Company, 4th Battalion, 1st Special Warfare Group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During his time, he led young Soldiers as a Senior Instructor/Writer, training thousands of future Green Berets. In September 2020, Mitch returned to the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), serving as the Senior Special Forces Engineer Sergeant on ODA 7216. In January of 2022, he was assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, working in Group S3 Operations. Although Mitch served in many capacities within the Special Forces Regiment, he will be forever remembered as a Hooligan on ODA 7231, where he forged friendships that will never be broken. Outside of the Military, he enjoyed woodworking, including building many pieces of furniture for his family home, coaching his daughters’ soccer teams, and playing games. He is remembered for his charisma, sense of humor, and ability to make people laugh. Mitch was proceeded in death by his grandparents; Eugene Tench, Dorothy “Nana” Blanton, and Jimmie Murdock. Mitch is survived by his wife Whitney (Bennett) Murdock, their beautiful daughters; Alexis, Presley, and Hailey, parents Robert and Cathy Murdock, sister Michele Murdock-Morrow (husband, Zach Morrow), brother Michael Murdock, grandmother Flora Murdock, best friend Jean-Philippe “JP” Manigat (wife, Kaylee Manigat), his team brothers, and many loving family and friends. Faith Chapel Funeral Home will provide services at 1000 S Hwy 29 Cantonment, FL 32533. The visitation will be on July 12, 2022, from 1:00 pm- 2:00 pm, followed by a military honor service at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Green Beret Foundation and The Gary Sinise Foundation.
