Michael "Mike" Meredith Sams

January 16, 1943 - February 27, 2022

Michael Meredith Sams, 79, of Pensacola, FL, joined our Savior in Heaven peacefully on Scout Sunday, February 27th, 2022 with family by his side. After 32 years, he retired from Monsanto in 2001 as a Senior Mathematician/ Quality Control Engineer in Pensacola, FL. Known to some as “Papa Sams”, Michael’s legacy is the impact he had in the lives of hundreds of youth as a Scoutmaster and many other adult leader positions in local Boy Scout Troop 3, where he directly mentored over 70 of their 138 Eagle Scouts in his 50 plus years in Scouting. He loved spreading joy to others that crossed his path as he handed out thousands of little rubber ducks each year. Preceding Michael in death were his parents Aaron and Ruth Sams, his wife Mary Ellen Sams, and sister Patricia Ann Escajeda. Michael is survived by his three children: Michele Sams Williams, Christopher Michael Sams (Melissa), Mary Katherine Sams Mundy, 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and his brothers: James W. Sams (Annette) of Pensacola FL., Gerald Neal Sams (Sharon) of Smyrna, GA., Carroll W. Sams (Brenda) of Greenwood, SC., and several loved nieces and nephews. On Saturday, March 19th, 2022, the family will greet friends for an open visitation from 1-2 pm at Cokesbury United Methodist Church on 5725 N 9th Ave, Pensacola, FL 32504, (850) 476-5818. Funeral services will start at 2:00 pm, followed by a friendly meet and greet with light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments afterwards.
