Lilla Marie Harris York of Pensacola, FL was born November 28, 1931 and died peacefully at her home on December 4, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of John Reuben Harris and Verta Mae Hatley Harris of Horton, Alabama. Marie married the love of her life, Ernest Elbert York on March 5, 1949. They shared 46 wonderful years together until his death in 1995. They were blessed with six children: Maria "Jan" (Ronnie) Grant, Hubert (Jackie) York, Karen (Bill) Farinas, Debbie (Mike) Parker, Connie (Cliff) Morgan, and Alice (Jim) Ward; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild on the way. In addition to these, she is survived by her two sisters, one sister in law, many nieces and nephews, as well as other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, husband, and oldest grandchild Charles "Chuck" Grant. Marie and Elbert were charter members of Scenic Heights Baptist Church. Marie faithfully served in various leadership positions throughout the years and also sang in the choir. Having worked for J.C. Penney's for 36 years, she retired as department manager of Custom Decorating. She was an accomplished seamstress, even sewing elegant wedding dresses for her girls. A true southern lady of grace and style, she was beautiful both inside and out, loved her family fiercely, and lived her life for her Lord Jesus as the spiritual matriarch of her family. Visitation will be on Friday, December 10, 2021, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. A celebration of her life will follow at 10:00 AM. Pastor Clifford Morgan will be officiating. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Emerald Coast Hospice for their care.
