Leonard Cletis Montgomery

Leonard C. Montgomery, 91, passed away on April 25, 2022 in Cantonment, Florida. Leonard was born in Okolona, Mississippi, at home on August 21,1930. He is survived by his wife Sheila Montgomery and his three children; Paula Blackmon, Wayne Montgomery (Pam), and Connie West. His six grandchildren include Rhonda Hope Carpenter (Jeff), William G. Blackmon IV (Heidi), Christina Elaine Lane, Christopher Alan Stewart, William Joseph West III, Ashley Lauren Hebert (PJ). His eight great grandchildren are Jacob Rameriz, Juliana Carpenter, Ava Lane, Lilly Lane, Sam Lane, Maddox Mustaki, Micah Mustaki, Jade Blackmon. Leonard’s loving family also includes brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Carrie Eliza, his father William Avery Montgomery, and his brother Charles Edward Montgomery. Leonard’s career started in the grocery business with A & P grocery stores. He then moved to Nabisco shortly before his long-time career began as a retail baker. He owned Dal’s Bakery in Pensacola from 1955 to 1973 and then worked at Lawrence’s Mr. Wedding Cake in New Orleans. After returning to Pensacola, he purchased and worked in J’s Pastry Shop from 1978 to 1990. Upon his retirement, he was able to enjoy his many interests such as taking grandchildren camping, traveling, fishing, and playing cards. His pinochle and canasta skills are well known. Leonard loved going out to eat with his dear friends and enjoyed family time. He was always ready to tell a good story to anyone who would listen. Pallbearers are Lamar Powell, Jr., Scott Powell, Eric Powell, Jason Jeter, Christopher Stewart, John Garrett, Lamar Powell, Sr., and Karl Schuberton. Funeral services will be performed at Faith Chapel North, Cantonment, Florida on April 28, 2022. The family will receive visitors from 1 to 2 and the Service begins at 2:00.
