Joseph Weeks, Colonel USAF Retired Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Joe Weeks passed away at the age of 90 at Pensacola Navy Hospital due to complications from heart disease. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jeanne who lives in Pensacola, his daughter Jacqueline who lives in Anchorage, AL, and his son Duane who lives in Peoria, IL. His daughter Scherry Genz Weeks from Spring Valley, WI, preceded him and went to be with the Lord in March 2011. A Memorial service will be held at Perdido Bay United Methodist Church at 10:30 AM on Saturday November 19th, followed by a burial service at Barrancas National Military Cemetery at Pensacola Naval Air Station on Monday November 21st, at 10:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Perdido Bay UMC and/or Emerald Coast Kairos Prison Ministry and/or The American Heart Association in Joe's honor. Joe and Jeanne have three children, 7 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Joe was a strong Christian and very active in Perdido Bay United Methodist Church, Kairos Prison Ministry, The Walk to Emmaus program, Christian Motorcycle Association, Kiwanis, Masonic Temple, and Shriners. Joe was a combat veteran serving in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. As a pilot Joe flew B-17’s, B-24’s, C-47’s, and B-47’s. He flew in the Berlin Airlift and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Joe was born in Clarkston, WA in October 20, 1921. He attended Washington State University and later received a BS and MS from University of Maryland. He worked for McDonnell Douglas in Los Angeles before volunteering for the Army Air Corps. B-17 pilot training took Joe to Smyrna Air Base in Tennessee, where he met Jeanne, the love of his life. They were happily married for 66 years. We mourn his loss and will miss Joe, but we are celebrating Joe’s new life with Christ in Heaven. He has received a new heavenly body and is with Christ today – praise God for his promises for all those who know and put their trust in him. Joe was an amazing positive individual. He was a Christian role model for his family and all those who knew and loved him. He impacted many people through his positive, loving, and giving nature. He personified the attitude of Christian Servant Leadership. Joe loved bringing the word of Christ into prisons as a volunteer in Kairos Prison Ministry in Century Correctional Unit in Alabama; and riding his Harley Davidson with the “The Maranatha Riders” of the Christian Motorcycle Association. To his many friends and relatives, Joe will be remembered as a humble person with a winning smile, a positive attitude, and willingness to help others.
