Eula Dee Mathis (Graves) passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on February 20th, 2021 in Pensacola, Florida at the age of 86. Eula is survived by her cherished daughter, Gail, and two sons, John (Sue Saffran) and Clyde (Courtney); six grandchildren, Lauren Teague (Cliff), Morgan Bailey (David), Mallory Carroll (John), Sloane Denton (Robin), Kyle Ottley (Kinsley), and Steele Mathis (Ashley); eleven great-grandchildren, Ethan Bailey, Olivia Carroll, Maggie Teague, Luke Bailey, Cole Mathis, Hayes Carroll, Mabry Teague, Caroline Bailey, Cade Mathis, Jane Carroll, and Everett Ottley; and a brother, Johnny Graves (June). She is preceded in death by her husband, John “Jake” Wesley Mathis Sr., of 40 years; parents, Ellis Lee and Annie Mae (Hobbs) Graves; and siblings, Cora Lee Ingram, Earl V Graves, Bonnie C George. Eula was born on August 5, 1934 in Pollard, Alabama. She married the love of her life, Jake, on July 31, 1953. She was devoted to her family and loved them fiercely. Caring for Gail brought Eula great joy. She was known as “MawMaw Mathis” by anyone who met her, and she quickly made everyone feel as if they knew her their whole lives. Her kind heart was unmatched, and she was known for the best fried okra, her delicious cornbread, and rocking all of the babies. MawMaw loved to pick mayhaws and make jellies for her family and friends, and her creamed corn was second to none. Eula loved her Sunday school class, her church, and gardening. Her family will have a small graveside burial. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Gonzalez Baptist Church in Gonzalez, FL. FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME SOUTH, 100 Beverly Parkway, Pensacola, is entrusted with arrangements. You may express condolences online at www.fcfhs.com.
