Ernest Ray Blackmon, age 79, passed away Friday, February 10, 2012. He was born on November 7, 1932 in Brewton, Alabama. Mr. Blackmon was retired from Monsanto. His passion was coaching in the Myrtle Grove area, hunting, and fishing. Mr. Blackmon loved Jesus and didn’t mind letting others know it. He was a resident of Bay Breeze Assisted Living Facility and taught a weekly Bible study for the residents there. Preceding him in death were his parents, Tom and Ellen Wilson, his first wife, Patricia Blackmon, his son, Bobby Blackmon, three grandchildren, and a brother Houston “Buck “ Graves. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, his children, Sharon Olson, Jackie Bell (Jim), Johnnie Blackmon (Candy), Ronnie Blackmon (Sharon) and Sport Baker, 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter, his brother, Bill Wilson (Shirley) and 3 sisters, Betty Pritchett, Peggy Hammac (Lavon) and Bobbie Jean Douglas. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church Chapel with Pastor and son-in-law Jim Bell officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Rob Roberts and Jim Bell. Committal service will follow at Catawba Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dr. David E. Shofner officiating. The family extends their thanks to the nurses and doctors at Gulf Breeze Hospital, Baptist Hospital, the administration and staff of Bay Breeze Assisted Living Facility, and the pastors and congregational care team at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church.
