Eddie C. Dixon Sr. “Honey” (age 83 of Pensacola) a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, passed away on August 30, 2011 at Sacred Heart Hospital. Eddie was born to Lonnie and Beulah (Barfield) Dixon on February 23, 1928 in Camden South Carolina and moved to Darlington, South Carolina in 1939. Eddie was is preceded in death by his parents Lonnie and Beulah, sister Mildred Hawkins and brothers Clifton and Harold Dixon. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara J. Leidig Dixon, daughter, Jeanette Dixon of Jacksonville Florida, son and daughter-in-law , Eddie and Donna, their children, Lauren and Jonathan, his brother Robert (Pearl) Dixon of Barnwell S.C.,his sister Dorothy (Wade) Norris of Darlington S.C. and sister-in-law, Diana M. Selman. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Eddie joined the in Army in 1945 serving in World War II and the Korean War. He attended Clemson University receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Engineering. In 1956 Eddie moved to Pensacola working for Chemstrand Corporation (Monsanto). He retired with 30 years of service in 1985. Ed was a dedicated member of his church, Pensacola First Church of the Nazarene, serving on the board, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school for over 50 years. Over the years, he was active on the Nazarene North Florida District Board and served over 12 years on the Board of Directors for Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville TN. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Dixon, Rick Dixon, Bill Dixon, Donnie House, John Stein and Mike Raish. Honorary Pallbearers are Hollis (Buddy) Hobbs, Norm Potter, Jim Coppenger, Larry Wood, Ken McClosky, Randy Palmer, Doug Martin, the Wednesday morning men’s breakfast and his Sunday school class. Visitation will be Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. until the service at 11:00 at Faith Chapel North. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 12:30 pm. Memorials may be made to Pensacola First Church of the Nazarene, 3475 Pine Forest Road, Cantonment Florida, 32533.
