Obituary for Dorothy Aileen Rider

Dorothy Aileen Wagner Rider was born on January 6, 1930, in Lake Geneva, Florida, to Carolyn and Leon Wagner. She had two older sisters, Grace and Charlotte, and has a younger brother, Wilfred.

In 1948, while attending P.K. Younge High School, on the campus of the University of Florida, she met Bob Rider. He was a WWII Navy Chief veteran attending the University when they met at a USO dance where he swept her off her feet and tole her that night that he was going to marry her! They eloped a year later on her graduation day and moved to Sanibel Island, where they lived for seven wonderful months before settling in Pensacola. They were married 49 years.

Aileen and Bob raised four daughters and one son in the Christian faith. Mom always had a song in her heart. She often sang Oh What A Beautiful Morning to start the day. She had a beautiful voice and played the piano. Our house was full of music. A common experience in the Rider house was to gather the children to sing while she played the piano. Her children were her life, her husband her joy.

Aileen was a loving wife, mother and neighbor. She taught her children love and reverence for God and our Lore Jesus Christ. She was a member of Keystone Community Church, Lake Geneva, FL (as a child) and St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Bellvue, Pensacola, FL.

Aileen is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hogue Rider; parents, Carolyn and Leon Wagner; siblings, Charlotte Austin and Grace Child.

Aileen is survived by her daughter, Edith (David) Weissman; daughter, Charlotte (Alan) Bradshaw; son, Chapman (Rachel) Rider; daughter, Lu-Winn (Chris) Rutherford, daughter, Rachael (Bill) Arnold; grandchildren, Doug (Amy) Weissman, Robin Weissman, Eric (Nicky) Bradshaw, Kenneth (Allie) Bradshaw, Jon Michael Rider, Travis Rutherford, Samantha Rutherford, Nicky Rutherford, Zak Rutherford, Brian (Bridgett) Arnold and Ben Arnold; great grandchildren, Doug and Amy Weissman’s children, Shawn Caro, Logan Weissman, Rider Weissman and Liam Bradshaw, Eric and Nicky Bradshaw’s children, Natalie Bradshaw and James Bradshaw, and Brian and Bridgett Arnold’s child, Lydia Arnold.

Funeral Services will be Monday, May 13, 2019, at 11:00 AM, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Eastern Gate Cemetery. Father Eugene Pathe will be officiating.
