David Terry Mimms (LCDR USN Ret)

    March 8, 1944 - January 3, 2012

David Mimms, age 67 of Pensacola, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012. D.T. was born on March 8, 1944 in Lake Wales, FL, the son of Harriet and the late Lovie Mimms. He was older brother to his sister, Connie and brother, Jerry. Upon graduating from Garrett High School in Charleston, S.C., he followed in his father’s footsteps and enlisted in the Air Force. He left the U.S.A.F. after 6 years and went to college at the University of South Florida in Tampa. While he was there as a full time student and holding a full time job at a chemical factory, he earned his degree in Business Administration. After graduation, it took him less than a year to realize that civilian life wasn’t for him. Enlisting in the U.S. Navy, he served his country proudly and honorably for 19 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. As a resident of Pensacola, FL for 33 years, he enjoyed nothing more than hanging out with friends, tinkering in his computer room and enjoying his wife’s cooking. He is preceded in death by his father, Lovie Minns, Major, USAF. As one of the large number of people who knew and loved him, I can say that all of us are so very much missing you already, dad. Survivors include his mother, Harriet Mimms (Ocala, FL); sister, Connie Stafford (Belleview, FL); brother, Steven Jerry Mimms (Deltona, FL); loving wife, Magdalena “Nina” Mimms (Pensacola, FL); sons, David W. Mimms (Deltona, FL), James E. Mimms (Pensacola, FL), and Mitchell A. Mimms (Killeen, TX); sister-in-law, Emelita Parungao (Pensacola, FL); nephews, Romeo Parungao, Jr. (Tallahassee, FL), and Dr. Noel Pacheco (wife, Evelyn) of Pensacola, FL; countless grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012 at FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 100 Beverly Pkwy. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Mimms, David W. Mimms, Mike Moodigpaugh, Brian Barnes, Joey Grizzaffi and George Blisard. Honorary pallbearers will be Miles Mimms and Romeo Parungao, Jr. The family will receive friends at Faith Chapel South from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012. FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME SOUTH, 100 Beverly Pkwy, is handling arrangements. Condolences may be placed online @fcfhs.com.
