Curtis Franklin Jones

Curtis F. Jones, age 100, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022, in Ocala, Florida. He was born in Bratt, Florida on September 17, 1921, to AnneBell Mobley Jones and Franklin Jones. He grew up in the Pensacola and Cantonment area. When he was a young man he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC), traveling and working on projects around the country. He enlisted in the Navy at the Pensacola Naval Air Station in 1940. He served on board an icebreaker ship in the Artic and trained in aviation mechanics for planes and helicopters. He spent a year on Johnson Island in the Pacific Ocean during WWII repairing aircraft. He retired from active duty as Chief Aviation Machinist’s Mate and continued to work as an aircraft mechanic with Civil Service at NAS. He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Margaret, his daughter Barbara Henderson, son-in-law Jeff Henderson and two grandsons, Jarrett and Dylan. He was active with the Scottish Rite, dancing at the Zelica Grotto and a member of the Fleet Reserve. He attended the Veteran’s Air Flight to Washington in 2008. The family has been members of Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church for years. Services will be held at Faith Chapel South on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30am. The funeral service will follow with Pastor Richardson of Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church officiating. He will be laid to rest at Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest a gift to the Pensacola Scottish Rite, 189 W. Airport Blvd, Pensacola, Florida 32505, in memory of our loved one.
