Chester Arthur Puffer III
March 4, 1947 - June 22, 2022
Chester A. Puffer, age 75, resident of Inverness, Florida, passed away peacefully in Pensacola on June 22, 2022 after a period of declining health. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts on March 9, 1947, he was the son of the late Chester Puffer II and the late Edith Lorraine Madison. Chet grew up in Medford, and lived most of his life in Massachusetts and New Hampshire before relocating to Inverness, Florida in 2016. He graduated from Medford High School in 1965 and proudly served in the US Navy. For many years he was employed at Fort Devens as a painter and was later employed by the Town of Billerica DPW prior to his retirement. Chet cared deeply about his family and maintained many special friendships throughout his life. He enjoyed camping, long rides on his motorcycle and sharing stories about his rebellious younger days. He loved music and dancing—anything from ballroom waltzes to cha-cha and swing. When he wasn’t riding his motorcycle or hitting the dance floor, he enjoyed reading biographies, true crime novels and history. In addition to his parents, Chet is preceded in death by his beloved sisters Madelyn Thomas and Lorraine Pennington, both of Summerville, South Carolina, brother Richard Kocinski, and sister Joanne Green of Somerville, Massachusetts. He is the loving father of Derek Puffer of California, and Leah Perrydore and her husband Jason of Navarre, Florida. He is also survived by his sister Irene Gillespie and brother-in-law, Ron of Farmington, Maine; brother Danny Puffer of Maine, and his aunt Marjorie Collins of Billerica with whom he shared a special bond. He forever holds a special place in the hearts of Chrystal Begay and her husband Michael, and as cherished “Papa Chet” to Hunter, Colton, Cameron and Tyler Begay of Chelmsford, Massachusetts. He leaves behind many treasured cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends. There will be no calling hours or services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Chet’s memory may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/), American Kidney Fund (www.kidneyfund.org) or the National Kidney Foundation (https://www.kidney.org/).
