Bessie Gordon Quina, 97, lifelong resident and native of Pensacola died peacefully November 12, 2011 at Covenant Hospice in the presence of her family whom she dearly loved. She was of the Catholic faith and a member of Northridge Church. Bessie was preceded in death by her parents Cleve and Clementine Williams Gordon. Her loving husband of 60 years, Julian J.L. Quina; brothers C.C. Gordon (Big), Jr. & Walter C. Gordon and her sister Mary Ruth Gordon Borders; grandson William J. Bender and great grandson Ross Lewis Bender. Bessie, the matriarch of her large, loving family leaves to cherish her memory her six children, Shirley Bender (Lewis), Julian Quina “Jack” (Carolyn Skinner), Linda Jo Landry (Greg), Susan Mills (Larry), Ronald Quina; Karon Robinson, seventeen grandchildren David, Marty and Scott Bender; Joey, Patricia, and Giner Quina; Melissa (Alexander) & John Landry; Cliff, Timmy, Michael Aaron Mills, and Marcla (Sullivan); Austin & Brent Quina; Andrea & Alison Robinson, twenty-eight great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Her great joy and pride was her family. She thoroughly enjoyed her many, many friends, especially her Bridge clubs, her River Valley and other camping friends, her extended church families and Lunch bunch group. She was an inspiration to many and so many of her daughters’ friends would say, “When I grow up, I want to be just like Bessie.” To know mother was to love her. The Celebration of mother’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Faith Chapel South with the Reverands Darryl Eubanks and Orren Simpson officiating. Mother’s nine grandsons will be her pallbearers. Burial will follow the services at St. John’s cemetery on North “G” Street. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Faith Chapel Funeral Home South, 100 Beverly Parkway is in charge of arrangements.
