Barbara Marie Capone
July 18, 1931 - October 28, 2021
Barbara Marie Capone, 90, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2021 at her residence in Pensacola, FL. She was born in Lynn, MA in July 1931, the daughter of Nora (Lee) and John F. Manning, who immigrated from Connemara, Ireland. Barbara met Phillip Capone on a ski train returning from North Conway, NH when Phil was in the US Coast Guard out of Boston. They were married on July 31st, 1954 in Lynn. They spent the next 65 years together, moving around from Syracuse, Saranac Lake, Glens Falls, Warrensburg and settled in a farmhouse in Ray Brook in 1962. Barb was a devoted wife, loving mother, and always ready to lend a hand. She provided a warm welcome to anyone who entered the "Scarface Inn" and cherished spending time with family, with a special affinity for young children. Barb had a knack for bringing a room to tears of laughter during family gatherings. She would get feisty if you got her Irish up. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, reading, and crossword puzzles. She raised 5 children and was known for "ringing the dinner bell" to summon the kids home. She was often running a shuttle to get her children to the school sports and activities. Barb attended business training in Boston after high school. She was employed as bookkeeper for Howard Johnson's Restaurant in Lake Placid for 17 years. She also volunteered at the information desk at Adirondack Medical Center and was a member of Catholic Daughters of St. Bernard's Church. She was predeceased by her parents, siblings Marion, Kay, and Sonny and her husband Phil. She is survived by daughters, Anne Sanborn (Lamont) of Pensacola, FL and Cathy Bennett (Curt) of Chisago City, MN; sons, Paul Capone (Sue) of Vermontville, NY; Dan Capone (Kim) of Williamston, MI; Matt Capone (Laurene) of Loxahatchee, FL; grandchildren: Tom, Graham, and Brian Sanborn, Casey and Bridget Bennett, Nate, Nick, Shayne, Samantha, Ben, Monica, Logan, and Payton Capone; 3 great grandkids and 14 nieces/nephews. Barb was the matriarch of the Capone family and was a pillar of strength. Her big heart and good nature earned her praise from friends and family. A graveside service in Saranac Lake will be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, friends and family can make a memorial contribution to Saranac Lake Adult Center, P.O. Box 864, 136 Broadway, Franklin, Saranac Lake, NY, 12983.
