Alvin Fritz

Alvin W. Fritz, 84, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired as a Senior Chief after 30 years of faithful service. He was awarded nine Good Conduct Medals, Navy Commendation Medal, and the European African Eastern Campaign Medal during his military career. During his civilian career at Corry Station, Pensacola he received a Meritorious Unit Commendation. While stationed at the Pentagon, Mr. Fritz became an avid Washington Redskins football fan. After his retirement, Mr. Fritz obtained training in general contracting, automotive mechanics, and roofing. These skills proved valuable to him during his 13 years at MWR at Corry Station where he was promoted to Deputy Director. He was very creative and innovative during his military and public service. He enjoyed woodworking, was an able craftsman, and he loved playing golf. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by three infant children and two brothers, Buddy and Harold Fritz. He is survived by Josephine, his loving wife of 62 years; daughter, Mary Gladding of Sanford, FL; son, John (Kim) Fritz of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Jean (Al) Eckles of Hopkinsville, KY; daughter, Donna (Steve) Yoxheimer of Woodland Park, CO; daughter, Alexis (Phil) Angelini of San Diego, CA; and seven grandchildren, Joe & Josh Fritz, Stephen & Brandon Yoxheimer, Nick, Alexa, and Luke Angelini. A funeral mass will be conducted Wednesday, July 25 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 401 Pelt Lane, Pensacola, FL. Father Dominic Phan Sa will be officiating.
