Yves Capel

After a valiant effort to overcome pneumonia, Yves died surrounded by family on February 01, 2025. Yves far out-lived his life expectancy, which is a testament to the loving care he received from his greatest advocate Linda, other family members and many compassionate caregivers in Home Health Services. A very special thanks is offered to Michael Lally in the VA’s Biloxi Office who always made every effort on behalf of Yves’s health and welfare. Yves is survived by his wife Linda, daughters Lisa (Curry) and Maria Capel, stepdad, Mike Holcombe, son, Elijah (Lori), sister Valerie Capel and granddaughters Jocelyn and Kiersten. He was preceded in death by his father Ange and mother Huguette Holcombe. Yves was born in Port-Lyautey, Morocco January 18, 1958 and spent his early youth in France. After his father’s death, his mother brought their family to this country to be near her sister. As a young man Yves enlisted and served 4 years in the Air Force. After serving our country, he joined the work force and attended Pensacola Junior College. His plan was to continue his education and earn a degree in Architecture. However, he was involved in an auto accident in May, 1987, that forever changed his plans. He sustained injuries that paralyzed him from the neck down. In spite of a long recovery, multiple surgeries, much pain, and many limitations, Yves always had a positive attitude. He never saw a stranger and would engage anyone near in conversation. If he saw someone with physical problems, he would offer words of encouragement and compassion. Yves was a member of St. Andrew Antiochian Orthodox Church. He had a firm belief in the grace that God extends to all who believe in Him. He trusted God to always see him through each day, no matter what lay ahead. Yves had a curious mind and enjoyed a challenging game of chess as well as a varied line up of TV programs. Some favorite topics were architecture, auto-makeovers, nature and cooking shows. One of his aides, Jamie, and Yves spent many hours in the kitchen preparing recipes Yves wanted to try. Jamie cooked and Yves coached. Before Yves was confined to bed, it was routine for him to ask to be put in his wheelchair and off he went. He and their dogs, Bella and Bentley spent so many afternoons visiting any neighbors out in their yard. Like the neighbors, we all will miss the joy and love we shared with Yves and his trust in God that he often reminded us of when we spent time with him. “May his memory be eternal”
