Winfred Fulton "Dub" Hampton, Jr.

CDR Winfred Fulton (Dub) Hampton USN (ret) went to sleep in the Lord on Sunday July 25th. He was the beloved patriarch with 17 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren and his wisdom, guidance and love will be sorely missed. Dub was born June 29, 1931 in Jay, Oklahoma. He grew up there in eastern Oklahoma on Brushy Creek, the family farm. He attended Hendrix college in Conway, Arkansas and began his Navy career as a NAVCAD in 1951. Dub was a decorated Fighter Pilot flying F-3Ds in Fighter Squadron Fourteen, and combat missions in Vietnam flying the RA-3. He was a plank holder on The USS Enterprise (CVN-65) and participated in the blockade of Cuba on that ship during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired from the Navy September 30, 1976 but continued to be an active reunion participant with the Tophatters of VF-14. After the Navy, Dub taught business, typing and the NJROTC course at Pine Forest High School. In 1985 he ran for public office, won and became District 1 Utilities Commissioner for Escambia County. Dub had a true love for the Lord. He was a member of Berean Bible Studies Ministries of Atmore, AL and routinely taught the Gospel to anyone who would listen in his retirement years. He also created a website (AbsolutetruthKJV.com) and hosted a weekly Bible study in his home. He was saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. Dub leaves behind his wife of 38 years Katherine Thomas Hampton, his sister Sybil Hampton Martin of Little Rock, Arkansas and brother Sammy Hampton of San Jose, California; Son Winfred Fulton Hampton III, also daughters Mary Elizabeth West of Pensacola and Catherine Anne McCullum of Ft Myers; stepson Michael Douglas Thomas of Atlanta and Stepdaughter Marilyn Jane Watson of Pensacola. Dub was pre-deceased by his parents Judge Winfred Fulton “Bud” Hampton and Elzona Sasnett Hampton, his first wife Daisy Perkins Hampton, son Barry Hampton, stepson David Reid Thomas, sisters Winifred Hampton Stanley, Sue Ella Kennedy, Buddy Ann Williams, Tommy Nell Mullane and brother Truly Warren “TW” Hampton. “As the Old Snarley Fox says….It doooo beat me!!!” Visitation will be from 1130 - 1230 on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 followed immediately by the Funeral Service at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. Bro. Nolan Butler will be officiating. Interment to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Naval Air Museum, NAS, Pensacola, FL, or the Berean Bible Study, 1610 Medical Park Drive, Atmore, AL 36502.
