William Ted Gass

William Ted Gass 1960-2016 Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, William Ted Gass, died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on August 10, 2016. He was only 55 years old. Ted was born August 26, 1960 in Barstow, California, youngest of seven children born to Val C. Gass and Helene Gass. Ted was raised in Granger, Utah and graduated in 1978 from Granger High School. Ted joined the United States Navy in 1979. As a young Sailor, Ted met and married the love of his life, Jenny Berlin on April 16th, 1983. Ted and Jenny lived the typical career Navy life. While stationed at Whidbey Island, their only child Megan Marie was born in 1985. Later they were stationed in Atsugi, Japan and Pensacola, Florida. Ted served on the flight deck of many aircraft carriers, including the USS Coral Sea, USS Kitty Hawk, USS Midway, USS Ranger and the USS Nimitz. After 20 years of dedicated service Ted retired from the Navy I July of 1999 as a Master Chief Petty Officer. His personal awards included: 2 Navy Commendations Medals, 3 Navy Achievement Medals and 5 Good Conduct Medals long with many sea service medals. Ted transitioned from the service to civilian life in Pensacola. He worked as a contractor for L3 Communications. He was a passionate girls’ soccer coach for 15 years loving this special tie with his daughter. He attended Heritage Baptist Church where he performed mission work in Brazil. Ted was an accomplished woodworker and many people have enjoyed the fruits of his labor. Ted was a perfectionist as was evident in his home and yard. Ted and Jenny were longtime season ticket holders for the Pensacola Ice Flyers. Ted worshipped his wife, daughter Megan, son-in-law, Chris and his grandson, Landon. He was a loving man and his family and friends will miss him dearly. Ted is survived by his wife Jenny, their daughter Megan (Chris Thompson) and grandson, Landon. He is also survived by his brother and sisters Diana (Robert Easson), Valorie Kemp, Jim Gass (Terri), Sally Koch, Paula (Steve Shockey), and Peggy (Andy Dagley). Ted was blessed with numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews who will miss their Uncle Ted very much, as well as many, many friends. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 15, 2016 with a full Military funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel, building 1982., NAS Pensacola, FL. Those interested in attending the service should meet no later than 8:45 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home at 1000 South HWY 29, Cantonment, Florida, 32533 to join the procession. At a later date we will have a Celebration of Life for Ted in Salt Lake City, where he will be inurned at the Utah State Veterans Memorial Park with his mother and father. Details to follow.
