Willene Smith LeMaster

Willene Smith LeMaster, 90, of Cantonment passed away peacefully August 29, 2020 at home with family by her side. Willene was born March 16, 1930 to William Earl Smith and Elsie Willams Smith in Lasca, Alabama. Willene is survived by her children Gloria LeMaster Turner, Sue Wilder (David), Jeanne Pilgrim (Bob), daughter in law, Vicki LeMaster, grandchildren Kimberly Henneberg (Rob), Ryan Wilder (Lauren), Jeremy LeMaster (Tracy), Ashley Kohn (Reggie), Shannon LeMaster-Smith (Jonathan), Summer McLellan, T.J. LeMaster, Beth Jones (Tim), Jacob LeMaster, and thirteen great grandchildren, brother Harold, sisters Maxine Middleton Johnson (Les), Ann Ball (Jack), Jean Coggin (Walt), Joyce Loftin (Jerry), Linda Thomas, Patsy Berryman (Jim) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Her husband, T.J; her sons, Bill and David; her parents William Earl and Maggie Smith, Elsie Williams Smith, her brother Evie Smith, and her son-in-law, Hude Turner, precede Mrs. LeMaster in death. She was a graduate of Sweet Water High School, attended Livingston State College, and held degrees from both the University of Alabama and Troy State University. A life long educator, Willene taught children in Alabama and Florida for forty years. She was a beloved teacher and colleague. Willene was a long time member of the St Andrews United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, led Bible School, was active in the United Methodist Women’s Group, and served in a variety of leadership roles. She cherished her church family. Willene enjoyed watching her large family participate in sports and other activities over the years. She loved playing cards and was a member of several Bridge and Bunco Groups. Her competitive nature was especially obvious when she was cheering on teams from her Alma Mater. Roll Tide Roll! While Willene had many friends including her ADK sorority sisters and neighbors, her best friends were always her siblings. Together they raised their families, traveled and celebrated holidays and life events. She left a legacy to everyone for how to live with love, trust, faith and forgiveness and we are forever grateful. She will be dearly missed. The family expresses our deepest gratitude to mom’s caregiver and friend, Lenora Campbell. As Lenora says, mom and dad were her buddies. A celebration of life for family will be held at Forest Springs Cemetery, Morvin, Alabama Saturday, September 5 with granddaughter, Reverend Shannon LeMaster-Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you honor Willene by donating to the charity of your choice.
