Wendell H. Parker

Wendell's life is a story that only God could have written. Beginning March 4, 1943, it is a story of love, loss, faith, and commitment. Following a youthful marriage, blessed with two daughters, Wendell married Barbara in 1969, and gained two bonus daughters. Wendell made a conscious decision to be a father to all his daughters, and they made a conscious decision to be daughters to a great dad. Wendell and Barbara enjoyed traveling the world. With their favorite mode of transportation being a cruise ship. Wendell retired early from retail management in 1998, to care for Barbara, who passed in 2002, after 33 years of marriage. Following this loss, Wendell returned to God's open arms for peace and comfort. Wendell was a faithful member of Olive Baptist Church and his senior adult Sunday school class. He never met a stranger, and few escaped his playful teasing. For ten plus years, Wendell struggled with debilitating back and leg pain. But, he could always be counted on if you had a need. Wendell married Carol in 2007. A lovely lady, who treasured his family and church as much as he did. Sadly, she died during a family vacation in the mountains, after spending a perfect day together. They were married eight months. Wendell treasured family like few others. He was a natural caregiver, and contributed greatly in the care of his sister and brother through lengthy illnesses. Wendell was admitted to the hospital November 27, 2020. Over the next eleven days, he was diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer, right side heart failure, lung disease, and anemia. He fought a good fight, remained in good spirits, and never once doubted the Great Physician was in control. The diseases progressed rapidly, and Wendell joined Jesus December 28, 2020. Wendell lived his testimony to the very end, expressing gratitude to those caring for him as he had cared for so many others. One of the last words he spoke was in response to a question about being ready to meet Jesus soon. His response, "Absolutely". Scribbled in the back of a Bible are the words, "When you read my obituary that says I am dead, don't you believe it! I am more alive today than ever before here on earth. Busy yourself, not with sadness and grief, but with preparing to join me in heaven." 2 Corinthians 5:1-10 Yes, Wendell's life is truly a story that only God could have written. In an effort to keep those we love safe, a small graveside service will be held Saturday, January 2, 2021, 3pm, Bayview Memorial Park.
