Wara Barnes Voss

Wara B. Voss (nee Barnes) 1925 to 2016 After a long illness, Wara Barnes Voss was ushered into the presence of our Lord and Savior early on the morning of June 7th, with her family in attendance. Wara was born in November, 1925 in Jay, Florida to Joseph and Mattie Barnes. She resided in Santa Rosa County during her early life and graduated from Chumuckla High School with the class of 1943. Moving to Pensacola, she worked at Western Union and then Naval Air Station, Pensacola as a supply specialist. She married Bill in 1947 and loved him for 69 years of marriage. After a leave of absence to raise her family, Wara returned to the Naval Air Station and retired with 20 years of faithful service. Throughout her life, she focused on her husband, her children, grandchildren, and serving her Lord. Wara taught bible study classes at Woodlawn Baptist Church (later Airport Boulevard BC) and served as church treasurer and bookkeeper. She was a member of Pace First United Methodist Church. Wara was a member of the Pensacola Garden Club and served as an officer on the board. Her smile and kindness will be missed by all who were blessed to know her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Barnes and Mattie Barnes (nee Barrington); sisters, Clara (Roma) Lloyd, Eva (Joe) Harter and Onie Wall; brothers, Vernon “Son” Barnes, Watson Barnes, John “JT” Barnes and Billy Barnes; and granddaughter, Laura Ann Voss. Wara is survived by her husband, Willis M. “Bill” Voss, Jr.; children, Larry B. (Barbara) Voss, Susan C. Voss and John M. (Patricia) Voss; grandchildren, William Voss, Matthew Voss, Robert (Katya) Voss, John Voss, Emma Voss and Peter Voss; and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Sat., June 11, 2016 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. Burial to follow services in Bayview Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Fri., June 10, 2016 at the funeral home. Pallbearers: Robert Voss, John Voss and Peter Voss.
