Wallace Ray Beck

Wallace “Ray” Beck of Pensacola, Florida went home to be with his Savior on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. He was born on October 26, 1940 in Keller, Texas to Oscar and Bertha (DeEllen) Beck. He is preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Bertha, His brothers, Orville, W.D., and Robert Beck, as well as his daughter Stacia Janay Beck. Ray is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn Esther (Maulden) Beck and his children and their children, Kenneth and Teresa Beck and their four children, Cheryll (Beck) and James MacLachlan and their four children, Keven and Catherine Beck and their four children, and Oscar Beck, as well as eight great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all! Ray served in the U.S. Navy, he is a decorated veteran who served twenty years. During his time in Vietnam he worked with the Christian organization known as the Navigators and devoted much of his time to bringing his fellow corpsmen to Christ and helping others. One of those special stories being Sam Maybe Not Village. Ray’s journey with the Lord was long and though at times not perfect, the Lord was able to use Ray as a vessel to bring others to him through the work of the Holy Spirit. During his journey Ray knew that the key to helping to spread the gospel was creating relationships with others. Relationships like that of Christ, relationships that were based in love. Decius Traianus, after the death of his best friend and co-emperor said, “Let no man mourn, for the death of one solider is no great loss to the republic.” Even though Ray was such a great part of our lives we cannot let his death invade the things we must do and the task at hand. We all know without a doubt he is in the hall of the Father. He was a good soldier, father, husband, and teacher, even if some of those took longer for him to perfect. He loved God and praised him above all. He died a dignified man and will be waiting for us in heaven. Ray’s last lesson for his family and friends: There is no other rest, no other refuge besides Jesus. He alone has satisfied the requirements of God’s Law, providing the sacrifice that atones for our sin. Jesus Christ alone is a shelter from all the storms of life. We have all failed in our efforts to obey God’s Law, but He has perfectly satisfied all the requirements of God’s Law in our stead. He is God’s plan for us to cease from the labor of our own works and trust completely in His work on the Cross. We are not saved by works but by His work; however, true salvation produces works, because it is “Christ who works within us.” Christ is the answer and solution to all the senseless strife and division in this world, be it personally, culturally, racially, ecclesiastically, or politically. Only the Lord Jesus, “The Prince of Peace,” can bring this about. Augustine speaks of this rest that only Jesus gives when he stated, “Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.” A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 1:00 PM, at Fairfield Presbyterian Church.
