Virginia West, A native to Pensacola was born October 3, 1938 and passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 10, 2020. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Jerome and Roberta Strauss and her loving husband Charles West. She is survived by her children Gary Peters(Frankie), Wayne Peters(Jocelyn) and Nacie Smith(Terry). Grandchildren Ginnie Biggs(Chad), Charlcie Smallwood(Jason), Gary “Bubba” Peters(Jessica), Amanda Smith (Justin), Shannon Boone, and Brad Henderson. Great Grandchildren Dalton, Kaydon, Kinzlee, Brodie, Brynlee, Abigail, Taveion, Charlie, Luke, Myles, Tripp, Caroline, and Presley. She also had a VERY LARGE extended family who she loved very much. Virginia was a faithful member of Gonzales Baptist Church. She was a member of the Brent Ladies Auxiliary for years, where she developed lifelong friends who became more like family. She worked in the yarn plant at Chemstrand where she met the love of her life Charles West. Her most respected and rewarding role was that of mother and MEMAW. She was very proud of all of her children and grandchildren and if you ever sat to talk with her, you were going to get several stories of their accomplishments and how wonderful they all were. She spent years cooking for everyone as this made her heart happy to have everyone around her table enjoying food and family. For many years it was every night, but once the family moved to Cantonment and grew to 20+ it became once a week. If you lived in Cantonment, you probably heard of her legendary Tuesday night meals, she not only fed her family, but any friends they may have invited. Tuesday nights were full of good food, loud people, lots of stories, but mostly love. She enjoyed and made it priority on her schedule to spend her time watching her babies at the ballpark. Her three children played at Brent, however she left her mark on three generations of ballplayers and cheerleaders at NEP, Ensley, Ransom, Tate, Cantonment, Pace, and Molino. Virginia loved everyone who ever came through her doors or participated on a team with any of her kids and this is how she became well known to all as MEMAW. She will be greatly missed by many, however we find great comfort knowing she had a large welcoming party at heavens gates and that she is now in her saviors arms. She was a nurturer right up to the end. She ensured that on the day of her passing she spoke to each of her grandkids and great grandkids, and they heard her say she loved them and she was going to meet Jesus. Public Viewing will be held on Tuesday July 14th from 6-8 pm at Faith Chapel North Funeral will held on Wednesday July 15th at 10 am at Faith Chapel North with graveside service and burial at Eastern Gate Cemetery.
