Ruth Hunt Forehand

Ruth H. Forehand, age 93, was born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 4, 1921. She and her family moved to Miami, Florida in 1926. Her husband of 42 years, Gabby predeceased her in September 1987. Also predeceasing her were her mother Nora; her father Ted, and her sister Nora Dell. Ruth resided in Pensacola since 1954 having relocated from Miami with her late husband, Gabby in 1954. The love of her life, Gabby, whom she married shortly after his return from service in the U. S. Navy during World War II, were married for 42 years prior to his death in 1987. Ruth and Gabby were avid fans of the University of Miami Hurricanes football team and travelled to games or followed the Hurricanes Network via scratchy AM radio broadcasts driving around Pensacola to obtain good reception from the 1950s through the early 1970s. They also frequently travelled to various states and national monuments and overseas locations following their respective retirements. Ruth retired from the accounting department at Monsanto in 1977 after 20 years of service at the nylon manufacturer in Cantonment. Ruth was a member of East Brent Baptist Church since 1983 and active in various church functions up to her death. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Shimron Temple 133, Miami High School 1940 Alumni Association and a local Bunco club. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ray and Crystal Forehand of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter and son-in-law Bobbie and Lance Brown of Cantonment; 2 grandchildren and their spouses, Patricia and Derek Hebert of Pinellas Park, Florida; and Jeff and Misty Brown of Trenton, NC; three great grandchildren, Brett, Bradley and Victoria Brown; a niece and her husband, Lynn and Paul Russell of Mineral Bluff, Georgia; and nephew and his wife, Rodney and Jill Reynolds of Cocoa, Florida. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at East Brent Baptist Church, 4801 N. Davis Hwy in Pensacola with Reverend Dr. Dale Patterson officiating.
