Russell Conrad Dieterich Jr

Russell Conrad Dieterich Jr, 82 of Pensacola, Florida passed away Friday, August 25, 2023 surrounded by family and friends. Russell was born on November 26, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Russell Conrad Dieterich Sr. and Florence Elizabeth (Cox) Dieterich. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue Edwards Dieterich; son, Russell Conrad Dieterich III (Jackie); daughter, Angela Dieterich Holland (Jack); grandchildren, Heather DeLaney (Ryan), Brandin Dieterich (fiancé Kody), Kyler Kaeser (Kayla), Kinzi Kaeser; great grandchildren, Adaline Dieterich, Ella DeLaney, and Grayson DeLaney. He graduated from Abington High School and joined the Navy in 1958. He went to Naval school in Norman, Oklahoma, then transferred to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1959 as an E4 Aviation Boatswains Mate. In 1961 he transferred to Jacksonville, Florida to attack squadron 34 attached to the U.S.S. Saratoga (CVA60) where he was on a line crew as a plane captain on a A4D attack plane. It was in Jacksonville where he met his wife, Sue Edwards Dieterich from Florala, Alabama. In November of 1961, he was discharged from the Navy. He and Sue were married December 24, 1961 and moved to Pensacola, Florida in 1962. He worked for Coca-Cola until 1965, then hired on at Chemstrand as a machinist where he retired from Monsanto after 30 years. During his retirement, he was very active in helping his daughter with her business, Emerald Cuts Salon doing bookwork, maintenance, and keeping the grounds along with many other tasks when needed. He was very active in his grandchildren's lives daily and they brought him the most joy. He was a member of Olive Baptist church where he taught Sunday school, was a director, and usher for several years. He was recently attending Soul's Harbor Freewill Baptist Church where his son was teaching and preaching on occasion. His passion for the Lord and his family was unwavering. He loved his Lionel trains, woodworking, gardening, picking up rocks, fishing, and watching his grandchildren grow. He was gentle, kind, and loyal to everyone, surely missed by many. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday September 11, 2023 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Dr. Joe. E. Edwards (brother-in-law) and Russell Dieterich III officiating. The family will receive friend's at 11:30 a.m. Service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Barrancas National Cemetery.
