Ronald Lee Thompson

Ronald (Ron, Ronnie) Thompson age 78 passed at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, August 26, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sue, his daughter Natalie Cook (Blaine), grandson, Jackson Ronald of Panama City Beach and sister Joyce Thompson of Pensacola. Preceded in death by his father, Virgil, and mother, Wanda Thompson. Ron graduated from Catholic High School and Troy State University with a BS in Business Administration. After college, Ron joined the family business that pioneered the utility trailer rental business in Pensacola. He was in the moving yourself business for many years that included trucks as well as utility trailers. For those that knew Ron, they knew he was passionate about flea marketing and garage sales and searching for a deal or treasure. He would rise early on the weekend before work and hop in his Jeep to head to the sales. He had to get there before the good stuff was gone. Due to Ron's inability to go hunt for treasures for the last 20 plus years, the next best thing was watching American Pickers on tv. He could enjoy their finds and deals and sometimes say I have that! Ron was a family man. He was overjoyed when his daughter was born. He had some antics about his caregiving when she was a baby. A couple of the most memorable are of him wanting to do the late-night feedings so he could watch the late night tv shows and the next idea was one that made him especially proud of himself. The playpen was located across the room from the sofa so he thought of a win-win solution for himself and baby Natalie. He tied a string that reached across the room to the mobile on the playpen from the sofa. DaDa had it made. He could lay on the sofa and entertain baby girl. Ron was very proud of his Catholic faith and was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Bellview. A visitation for Ron will be held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South on Sunday, 30 August from 2-4. The funeral will be held at St Anne's Catholic Church in Bellview at 1:30 on Monday, August 31 with interment immediately afterwards at Holy Cross cemetery. Son-in-law Blaine Cook will be a pallbearer. Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Brown, Linny Robb, Donald Rohan, Joe Gangloff, Woody Soderlind, John Surette, and Herb Baker. Social distancing and masks are required for the church service. The family would like to thank all the aides that helped care for Ron through the years. Some of the aides towards the end of his journey got to know and love him and became part of the family. The last two years of Ron's life it was hard for him to have much enjoyment but he would look forward to her twice a week visits and would constantly ask when she was coming to see him.
