Roger "Rocky" Winans

How can we sum up the life of Roger “Rocky” Winans and confine it to a series of short concise paragraphs? Infinitely impossible! Love, compassion, dedication, humble, kind, generous, sarcasm, intelligent, these pieces all added into the whole. To our family and friends he was so much more. He was a husband who met his soon to be wife, Jo, in 1979 and the two became inseparable from that moment on. Together they built a business that would expand their family further than they could have ever imagined. He was a father who worked tirelessly to support his two boys, always making the effort to be present and never missing a ball game or event. He was a Pa always available for candy, a laugh, and McDonalds creating smiles in those babies that would light up a room. To those closest, his absence will be felt throughout a lifetime. His reach extends far more still. He was a passionate business owner cultivating an environment for his employees that would become a family. He was the man you called to come get rid of your pest, who became your lifelong friend. He remembered birthdays and favorite meals. He would come by and feed your animals when you were out of town. He came to check on you when you were sick and would bring soup, making sure you had something to eat. Can’t pay your bill? That is okay too! He accepted home cooked meals or handmade items as payment. He has touched more people than any of us will ever know and never asked for anything in return. The Man. The Myth. The Legend. He is not just a legend to us, he is a legend to us all. On August 18th 2021, the Lord called him home after a brief battle with cancer. He probably needed help with all the people up there, so we will wait to see him at those pearly gates one day and hold him in our hearts, loving him till then. Roger “Rocky” Winans (68) was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 17, 1953. He was the youngest of 4 sons born to Edward & Maxine Winans. He was preceded in death by both. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jo Winans. His sons Todd Winans (Dana), and Zakary Winans (Amy). His 6 grandchildren Taylor, Jade, Natasha, Gage, Vash, and Everlee. His 3 brothers, Jimmy Winans (Robin), Rick Winans (Chris), and John Winans (Eileen). We would like to thank all of the Rocky’s family past and present. He has left a mark on us all. Visitation will be Saturday, August 28, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. Celebration of Life will follow at 12:00 PM. Pastor Gordon Godfrey will be officiating.
