Robert William Glover

Robert William Glover, born September 20, 1931, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2024. A native of Gloversville, NY, Robert ‘Mr. Bob’ Glover graduated from Gloversville, NY High School in 1948. At age 17, Bob joined the U.S. Navy and he continued to serve his country over the course of 20 years, to include combat service in Korea and Vietnam, before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. A distinguishing highlight of his experiences was winning the Navy lightweight boxing championship title. One of Bob’s shipmates had set him up on a blind date with the former Barbara Ann Sweet, who would immediately thereafter become the love of his life; they went on to raise a family of four children and enjoy a marriage of 68 years. After retiring from the Navy, Bob and his family settled down in Pensacola, Florida. Bob then embarked on a second career with the Pensacola Junior College campus public safety administration for thirty years. Bob, Barbara and their family had made their faith home at Lakeview Baptist Church, where Bob then served as a deacon for fifty years. Bob was a humble and faithful servant of the Lord, and placed his trust in Him always. Bob always loved the outdoors, and enjoyed going hunting and fishing with his children; he loved animals, and had always championed the cause of animal welfare, in particular cats and dogs. He was an avid collector of watches and had an extensive collection of whatnots, many of which he had freely given as gifts to family and friends. While residing at Summer Vista assisted living facility, ‘Mr. Bob’ charmed and amused the other residents and staff with his dry wit and endearing mannerisms. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, William and Catherine Glover. He is survived by a brother, Ernest and two sisters, Sandra and Evelyn. He is further survived by his two sons, George Lee Glover of Park City, KS and Robert Allan Glover, of Pensacola, FL; two daughters, Lisa Ann Drasutis (husband, David) of Pensacola, FL and Beverly Jean Adams (husband, Nick), of Chuckey, TN and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Faith Chapel South on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 12:00 to 12:30 P.M. followed by a Memorial Service; Pastor Charles Mitchell will be officiating. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery, Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL. A special thanks to the caring staff, caregivers and fellow residents at Summer Vista Assisted Living Facility and Emerald Coast Hospice.
