Robert George Carr

Robert George “Bob” Carr 1929-2017 Bob was born in Detroit, MI to Harry and Viola Carr. He was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in Detroit and joined the U.S. Air Force shortly thereafter. He served until June 1957 when he received an honorable discharge for medical reasons. He was then employed by the Federal Civil Service until he retired with almost 40 years total in 1986. Bob married his wife of 68 years in 1950. They had one son, Alan B. Carr who was born in Nov. 1951. Bob became interested in bowling and was elected to the Board of Directors of the Greater Pensacola Bowling Assoc. In 1958 and served on its board until 2006. He was also elected to the Board of Director of the Southern Bowling Congress and the Florida State Bowling Assoc. Bob was elected President of all three associations and also served as Secretary of the Greater Pensacola Bowling Assoc. for 14 years. In addition to these honors he was also elected to the Hall of Fame for all three of these associations. In 1977 Bob was elected Sportsman of the Year by the Pensacola Sports Assoc. While still in the service Bob decided he needed to further his education and started taking courses at PJC and finally graduated with a Bachelor in Science Degree in Industrial Management, he then continued on and got his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Eastern Nebraska Christian College. In his spare time, he also served as a member of the National Panel of Consumer Arbitrators for the Better Business Bureau of Florida. Bob is also a charter member of the disabled American Veterans Playground Chapter 72, a member of Escambia Masonic Lodge 15 and the Naval Masonic Lodge 24. Bob also graduated from the Industrial College for the Armed Forces, completed National Security School, completed the Information Security School conducted by the Defense Industrial Security Institute, received the Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Sheriffs Dept. And attended Federal Bureau of Investigation Foreign Counter Intelligence School. He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Martha Worley Carr. Bob is survived by his son, Alan Carr (Kathy); three great granddaughters, Kristina, Brittany and Bailey; brother, William D. (Pearl) Carr of Warren, MI; sister, Mary Ann May of MI; two special nephews, Jim (Sharon) Ray and John (Nancy) Ray; and many nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thurs., Sept. 28, 2017 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South with Brian Knott officiating. Burial will follow in Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, FL. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wed., Sept. 27, 2017 at the funeral home.
