Robert Franklin Bernard

Robert F. Bernard, the best friend, father, grandfather, and husband anyone could have, left this earth on Wednesday, April 26th while holding the hands of his daughter, Theresa and son in law Ray, and holding the hand of our Lord and Savior. Robert (Bob) was born in Walla Walla, Washington, the oldest child of Lawrence Brook and Goldie Marian Bernard on September 2, 1928. Bob lived his early years in Walla Walla, and eventually married Betty Jane Cosgrove in 1948 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Walla Walla. Together they had three children, Theresa (Ray) Danielson of Pensacola, Gerald (Kathy) Bernard of Pendleton, Oregon, and Beth (Dave) Meshinski of Pensacola, Florida. Eventually Bob and Betty were blessed with and enjoyed the company of 9 grandchildren (Susan, Melissa, Melodie, Matt, Frank, Chris, Lauren, Ben, and Chris), numerous great grandchildren and two great, great children. During their 50 years of married life Bob and Betty lived in Walla Walla, Washington, Pendleton, Oregon, Boise, Idaho, Fairbanks, Alaska and Pensacola, Florida. After Betty’s death Bob later married Bobbie Jean Redwine in Pensacola, and they loved and remained married until his death. Leaving behind to cherish his memory are his wife Bobbie, Bobbie’s children Sherry Redwine, Lisa Redwine (Tommy Heist), Traci Redwine (Carol Thomas), and Kelli (Greg) Mitchell, as well as Bobbie’s numerous grandchildren who Bob enjoyed. Bob also leaves behind his first cousin, Marcia Mitchell, who recently moved to Pensacola and with whom he spent time talking about their old days as children as well as Marcia’s cats. Bob was always an outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, traveling and loved RV-ing around the country and Alaska in the 5th wheel travel trailer, He also pulled his 5th wheel from Fairbanks, down the AlCan Highway and eventually to Florida. In later years, spending time with family was his joy. To Bob, love of the Lord and love of his family was the most important asset and most important gift he could give his family. He loved printing pictures of family and sharing with everyone. Bob will be interned at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery next to his first wife Betty in a graveside ceremony to be attended by wife Bobbie, and all of Bob’s various cherished family members. Father Gordon Milsted will officiate. In lieu of flowers Bob requests that contributions be made to Covenant Care, 5041 N. 12th Avenue, Pensacola, Florida 32504 in Bob’s name. Bob extends a special thank you to members of Hospice; Martie, Cassie, Dawn, and Virginia. Also, a very special thank you to his special caregivers, Linda Small and Holly Pham. Graveside services will be on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 2:00pm at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to graveside at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
