Robert Wayne Atwell

Robert Wayne Atwell (Robbie Atwell to his friends and family) was born on September 30, 1960 and left our world for the next on August 8, 2022, after a stoic battle with Multiple Sclerosis, enduring it for over thirty-five years. He was born and raised in the Pensacola, Florida area. In his younger days he enjoyed fishing, camping, being a member of a bowling tournament team and photography. Robert graduated from J.M. Tate High School in 1978 and later attended UWF College, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. He proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force, excelling as a Staff Sergeant servicing aircraft in the Avionics Technology field. After his military career he served his community by helping others as a suicide prevention counselor. He also briefly worked as an office equipment technician. Inevitably, he was forced to permanently retire at an early age, due to his declining health condition. Family was always important to him and he is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Atwell Jr and Netta Jean. His remaining years were contentedly spent with his loving wife, Deette, who was also his dedicated and compassionate caregiver for over sixteen years and his step-son, Devin, whom he shared a special bond with and often referred to him as his "only son". He is also survived by a sister, Jeannie and two brothers, Oscar (Betty) and Bernard (Alina) as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and Kalia. Robert was loved by many friends and was always ready, willing and able to help whenever and wherever he could. He was an animal lover and leaves behind two dogs, Willow and Ditto, who miss their "Daddy", as well as several beloved pets who will join him forever in Heaven. In spite of his health problems, he always faced each day like a real trooper and never complained. He was always happy, kept a positive attitude and a mischievous sense of humor, even until the end. As per his request he has been cremated and his ashes are to be scattered at his chosen location in the near future.
