Robert Henry Anderson

Robert Henry Anderson Sr., age 92, of Pensacola, Florida, transitioned to Heaven on the morning of September 12, 2023. He was the oldest of nine children born to William and Melissa Anderson on July 6, 1931, in Camden Alabama. While living in Camden, he met and married the beautiful Florence Nicholson. They remained married for more than seven decades until God called her home in April of 2023. Their union produced five amazing children. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving from 1952-1954 (Korean War) before receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of CPL. He and Florence then moved to Pensacola, Florida where they would lay down roots and establish their legacy. Robert H. Anderson Sr. was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He played a pivotal role in the lives of his children and grandchildren by providing guidance, support, and a solid foundation for their development. His presence significantly shaped their character and his impact echos throughout generations. Additionally, he found great joy in planting and gardening, tending to animals and nurturing vegetables alongside his beloved bride. He was highly regarded as a pillar of his community. Eventually, he decided to attend a school for veterans where he devoted seven years to becoming an electrician. He achieved this goal and went to work for Armstrong Cork Company. After 42 years, he retired with the recognition of an outstanding employee, having his photo proudly displayed in the halls of Armstrong even to this day. ln 1956, he joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, initially under the leadership of Reverend Causey, and later, Pastor Fred Wright. He was given the title of Deacon and served on the Board of Deacons and the Finance Committee Chairperson. Deacon Anderson inspired many and mentored members who aspired to become deacons themselves. He was an excellent devotional and motivational speaker. His legacy will endure within the walls of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where his name has been engraved on the church building. He served as a faithful member for over 67 years and will truly be missed. Deacon Anderson was also a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge of Pensacola, Florida, where he regularly attended meetings. Deacon Anderson was preceded in death by both his parents, William and Melissa Anderson; siblings, Ella Mae Anderson, lda Bell Anderson, Lizzie Bell Anderson, Lucille Pettway, Eliza Mae Knight, and Charles William Anderson. He is survived by two brothers, Joe Albert Anderson and Clifford Earl Anderson; children, Shirley Evon Anderson, Robert Henry Anderson Jr., Michael Jerome Anderson, Angela Protina Jones, and Alphonso Anderson Sr.; along with a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Visitation services for Deacon Robert Anderson will begin at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 22, 2023 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gary Bryant officiating. Deacon Anderson will be laid to rest at Barrancas National Cemetery following the service.
